Several houses on my South B street lost pressure at once. Is that my problem?

No: that pattern points at the shared estate reticulation, not your house. It is worth the street raising it collectively, because a leak on the estate main wastes water everyone is paying for.

Is a South C repipe disruptive?

Plumbing in South B and South C

These are Nairobi’s established middle-income estates, largely built in the 1970s to a consistent standard and modified continuously ever since. The plumbing problems are correspondingly consistent: old galvanised supply, shared distribution, and decades of undocumented alterations.

Everything is shared until proven otherwise

The estates were laid out with common reticulation feeding rows of houses. When one household reports low pressure it may be their own pipework; when four report it on the same morning it is the estate main.

That distinction matters because the remedy and the payer are different. We test at the estate connection before doing anything inside a house, and we are happy to report to a residents’ committee rather than to a single owner.

Galvanised, again

Like Lavington and Parklands, the original South C supply is galvanised steel and it is now well beyond service life. The failure pattern is identical: narrowing bore, falling pressure, then leaks that chase each other around the house.

Undocumented spurs

What makes these estates distinctive is fifty years of additions. Extra bathrooms, servants’ quarters, outbuildings and boundary taps have each been spurred off whatever pipe was nearest, and none of it is recorded. Before quoting a repipe we trace what is actually there. A quotation written without that is a guess, and the difference tends to appear as a variation halfway through.
