Solar Water Heater Installation and Repair in Nairobi
Kenya’s sun does most of the work
Nairobi sits almost on the equator at altitude, which is close to ideal for solar hot water. A correctly specified system carries a household through most of the year on sunlight alone, with an electric backup element for the long rains.
Flat plate or evacuated tube
Flat plate collectors are robust, cheaper and handle Nairobi’s hail better. Evacuated tubes are more efficient in cool, overcast conditions and recover faster in July and August, but individual tubes break and need replacing. For most Nairobi households we fit flat plate; for higher, cooler areas such as Limuru and Tigoni the tube system usually earns its extra cost.
What we install
- Direct and indirect (heat-exchanger) systems
- Thermosiphon and pumped circulation
- Electric backup elements with proper thermostats and isolation
- Tempering valves, so the tap is not delivering scalding water in the middle of the day
Why systems stop working
Almost never the panel. In order: a failed circulation pump, a stuck non-return valve, scale in the heat exchanger, a backup element left switched on permanently and quietly costing you a fortune, or a leak in the roof-void flow and return that has been soaking the ceiling for months. We diagnose the circuit before quoting a replacement, most systems we are asked to replace need repairing instead.
