Plumber Rates in Nairobi: Callout, Repairs and How We Quote
What a plumber costs in Nairobi
Very few Kenyan trades publish their rates. We do, because the alternative, a number that appears only once someone is standing in your kitchen, is how the whole trade got its reputation.
The callout
The callout brings a licensed plumber, a stocked van and a diagnosis. In business hours it is KES 2,000 and it is deducted from the job if you go ahead. Nights, Sundays and public holidays are higher, and we tell you the figure on the phone before we set off.
If you choose not to proceed, you pay the callout and keep the written diagnosis. It is yours; take it to whoever you like.
How we quote larger work
Anything beyond a minor repair gets a written fixed-price quotation before work starts. If something is found once walls or ground are opened, that becomes a written change order that you approve before we continue. Nothing gets added to the invoice that you have not seen and agreed in advance.
How we take money
Staged payments against milestones, paid by M-Pesa with a receipt for each stage, or bank transfer. We do not ask for a large deposit before materials are on site.
This is deliberate. The single most common complaint about Kenyan trades is a deposit taken and work abandoned part-finished. A staged schedule with receipts means you are never far out of pocket relative to the work actually completed, and you have a paper trail if anything is ever disputed.
What is not included
Materials on larger jobs are quoted separately and itemised, so you can see what is labour and what is parts. Regulatory costs (a WRA permit or NEMA licence on borehole work, for instance) are shown as their own line rather than folded into a rate.
